Federal Student Loan Deferment
With all the will in the world, sometimes it is just impossible to pay a bill or to keep up repayments on a loan. Many people really work hard at paying them back but some people are either lazy or just forget about them. With student loans it is possible to get them deferred. In fact, a federal student loan deferment can be made for various reasons and different sets of circumstances.
If you happen to be pregnant or looking after a newly born child and have attended fulltime education in the last 6 months, then you may be entitled to a deferment. You will of course have to prove your situation in writing for it to be considered. You will have to have written confirmation from your college stating the dates you attended. You will also have to prove that you currently are not working or earning money in any other ways. If you match these requirements then you should certainly qualify for a deferment.
You can also apply for a federal student loan deferment if you are earning less than the lowest standard of living requirement that is set out in the US bureau. Again, you will have to prove your earnings and situation but if you can, then a deferment shouldn’t be a problem.
Other ways in which a federal student loan deferment can occur is if you happen to have suffered a disability of some kind or cannot work for a specific reason. These requirements will vary but basically if you cannot work for a genuine reason, then you should be able to defer your student loan repayment.
Of course whilst you are in fulltime education then you automatically have a federal student loan deferment as you don’t have to pay back any student loan until you have successfully finished your course. You will probably have a six month period after you finish too. This gives you enough time to find a job and the money to start paying back the loan.
So if you are struggling paying back your student loan, there are always
options available to you. Don’t suffer in silence!
